It is not a matter of being a guy or a girl , I belive eveyone deserve to treat their selves , GO to your hair dresser try to have as many diffrent hair cuts as possible to know what suits you best my brother for example has a long yet shoulder length hair that is on layers and it suits him, my ex boyfriend tryed grow his hair and cut it the same and it looked funny ! so it is all a matter of chossing the right length for your hairtype and face shape , long hair + long face and cury = bad , chubby face + bold hair = worst , it is all about balancing the equation vice verse them they would be ok if the chubby boy had long cury hair for example he would look slimmer and hotter !

Anyway, if "medium" means about shoulder length, you should trim it abit sort of emo style, but not full on emo, and just wear it loose.
Unless you want to have to fuss and bother about it, which is always unpleasant.
